Project type:
Kite Aerial Photographic (KAP) survey.

Method:
Remote controlled camera suspended from
flowform kite with ground video relay photo
mosaic.

Deliverable:
Perspective resolved image file.

Client:
English Heritage.
The photo mosaic is made up of 19 images selected from over 2000 captured during a 3 hour flight. The
camera uses image stabilisation and is gyro-stabilised in one axis but motion blur is inevitable in KAP capture
resulting in approximately 5-10% image loss. By moving the kite the site is covered by sequences of
overlapping imagery which gives wide coverage despite height restrictions.
Control of height is by digital altimeter relayed through a live video link to ground. Greater height reduces
resoloution but increases the coverage per image.
